(Revised on March 3, 2021)
Major league players usually have three option years, but some players, who have already used three options within four "full seasons", are given fourth option year.
It is unclear if the 2020 season, major league games were much reduced and minor league games were cancelled, will be counted as "full season".
In 2020 season, 62 players were used their third option. Among them, 40 players have already spent five "full seasons" by 2019, so they will be out of options.
Among the remaining 22 players, 9 players have spent only three "full seasons" by 2019, so they will be eligible for fourth option in 2021 regardless of the treatment of the 2020 season.
